Christmas Card 2018 and What’s On

Dear friends,
Christmas is a special time of year. There are many reasons why Christmas is so meaningful for so many people. For some, it is special because it means extra time with family. For some, it is special because of the chance to enjoy special food, or to watch Christmas-themed movies. For others, Christmas is meaningful because it is a time when we can exchange gifts with our friends and family.

Every year, I hear many people bemoan our materialistic    culture and the crass consumerism of the Christmas season      (I am often one such person!). More and more people are starting to push back against the ever-mounting pressure to buy more and more stuff during the holiday season, and rightly so.

Yet, despite our rampant consumerism and over-abundance of stuff, it is still true that almost everyone finds joy in giving and/or receiving a thoughtful gift. A thoughtful gift tells the recipient that he or she matters, and is deeply loved. I have never met anyone who doesn’t enjoy giving or receiving a thoughtful gift.

Christmas is a wonderful time of year to reflect on God’s greatest and most thoughtful gift to us: Jesus Christ. In what is   arguably the most famous verse in the entire bible, we are told, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have ever-lasting life. For God did not send His Son to condemn the world, but so that the world would be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17)

Christmas is all about Jesus, who is God’s greatest gift to us. I warmly invite each and every one of you to join us for worship at Kemnay Parish Church, so that we may give thanks together for God’s greatest and most thoughtful gift to us.

Yours aye,
Joshua Mikelson — Minister, Kemnay Parish Church
